How to use it

  1. Enter the purchase and sale dates and the total buy and sell values.
  2. If you bought on or before 31 Jan 2018, enter the fair market value on that date for grandfathering.
  3. Add any other equity LTCG this year so the ₹1.25 lakh exemption isn't double-counted.
  4. Read the gain type, taxable gain and tax due.

FAQ

What changed on 23 July 2024?
For listed equity and equity funds, LTCG went from 10% to 12.5% and the annual exemption from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.25 lakh; STCG went from 15% to 20%. The date of sale decides which applies.
When is a gain long-term?
For listed equity shares and equity-oriented mutual funds, when the holding period is more than 12 months.
What about debt funds?
Debt mutual funds bought on or after 1 April 2023 have no long-term benefit — the whole gain is taxed at your slab rate. This calculator is for equity only.
