How to check your driving licence — status, validity and who issued it

1. Application status (you've applied and are waiting)

Use 'Application Status' under Sarathi services with your application number and date of birth. It shows each stage — fee paid, slot booked, test result, approval, card printed, dispatched — so you can see exactly where it is stuck.

2. Licence details and validity (you already hold it)

Use the 'Driving Licence' search on the Parivahan verification page with your DL number and date of birth. It returns the holder name, both validity dates (non-transport and transport), current status, and the class-of-vehicle list. This is the same data the card maker's auto-fill reads.

3. Which RTO issued it

Read it straight off the number: the first two letters are the state, the next two digits are the RTO. The verification result also names the issuing authority, and the class-of-vehicle table shows the RTO for each class if some were added elsewhere.

A licence number that returns nothing on the verification page is either mistyped (check leading zeros, and O vs 0) or not a real licence. The format alone never proves validity — only the portal does.

Learner's licence

The LL has its own 'Learner's Licence' services page; check it with the LL number and date of birth. It shows the issue date, the six-month validity, and the classes applied for.
