Vehicle Number Decoder
Enter an Indian vehicle registration number to see the state or UT, the RTO code, the letter series and the number. Handles the newer BH (Bharat) series too. It does not look up the owner or vehicle details.
Standard state registration · normalised MH 12 AB 1234
This breaks the plate into its parts — state, RTO, series and number. It does not look up the owner, insurance, challans or fitness; that data is on the Parivahan / VAHAN portal and needs the registration certificate or an OTP. Nothing you type is uploaded.
FAQ
- Can I find the owner from the number?
- Not here. Owner, insurance and challan details are on the Parivahan / VAHAN portal and need the registration certificate or an OTP. This tool only reads the plate's structure.
- What is a BH-series plate?
- The Bharat series (like 22BH1234AA) is a nationwide registration for eligible employees who move between states, so the vehicle doesn't need re-registration on transfer.
